FRINGE FUTURES

A SUPPORTED PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME FOR GRADUATES AND EARLY-CAREER THEATRE MAKERS

Fringe Futures invites individual artists and early‑career theatre companies to apply for a supported performance opportunity at Totnes Fringe Festival 2026.

This programme is designed for artists taking their first steps into professional practice — whether working solo or as part of a small company — and seeking a fair, supportive festival platform to present bold, independent work.


Who can apply

Applications are open to:
- Individual artists or theatre makers
- Early‑career theatre companies or collectives

Applicants should have graduated within the last three years or be due to graduate in 2026.

About Totnes Fringe Festival

Totnes Fringe Festival is an ambitious, artist‑centred theatre festival based in South Devon. It brings together bold, inventive work across a range of venues and supports artists through fair pay, transparent financial splits and engaged audiences.

Fringe Futures sits at the heart of this approach — creating space for new voices at a crucial moment in their development.

What we’re offering ( Two opportunities) 

Selected artists or companies will receive:
- A programmed venue as part of Totnes Fringe Festival 2026
- One or two performance slots
- A £500 fee (per artist or company)
- 80% of box office income
- Support with finding accommodation if required
- Tailored mentorship, shaped around your needs (dramaturgical, producing or other professional support)
- The opportunity to be part of a professionally curated, lively Fringe festival

What kind of work are we looking for?

We welcome applications from across all forms of theatre and live performance, including: - Devised work - Physical theatre - New writing or adaptations - Interdisciplinary and experimental practice.

FURTHER DETAILS/HOW TO APPLY

We are keen to hear from artists or companies with a connection to the South West, though this is not essential. Applications from elsewhere in the UK are very welcome.


Practical details

Festival dates: 9–12 July 2026
Performance length: 45–75 minutes
Venues include pub theatres, churches, a large town hall and outdoor locations.

If you would like an informal conversation before applying, we are very happy to hear from you — particularly if this is your first experience of presenting work at a festival. If there are particular things you would like to discuss with us, such as accommodation or access needs, this is where you can start that conversation.
